Executive weekly review template
Make 30 minutes for the priorities, people and decisions that need your attention next week.
This is a suggested personal leadership routine, not a scorecard for your team. Bring your calendar, open commitments and a few notes from the week. Use the worksheet below on paper or in your existing notes.
First 5 minutes: compare intent with reality
What mattered at the start of the week, and what actually took your time? Name one outcome that moved forward and one that stalled. Separate evidence from assumptions: “Two customer handoffs needed rework” is more useful than “The handoff process is broken.”
Next 10 minutes: review people and promises
Look for commitments you made, updates you owe and people you have not heard from. For each open loop, choose a next action and a date to revisit it. If someone else owns the work, agree on a check-in rather than silently taking it over.
Example: “I promised Jordan a decision on the training pilot. Ask for the cost estimate on Tuesday; give Jordan a decision or a clear update by Thursday.” These are illustrative names and situations.
Next 10 minutes: choose priorities and decisions
Choose up to three outcomes for the coming week. For each, write the next step you can actually take. Identify one decision that needs evidence, a person to consult or a clear deadline. Decide what you will defer so the priorities fit the time available.
Example: “Reduce uncertainty about the pilot” becomes “Review the cost estimate with Jordan on Tuesday and record the decision criteria.” A completed conversation does not prove an improvement; revisit the result separately.
Final 5 minutes: protect the routine
Reserve time for your first next action, one important conversation and your next weekly review. If the week was overloaded, shorten the routine to one priority, one person and one promise. Consistency matters more than filling every line.
